As we know that autorun allows our operating system to detect and play any peripheral automatically. It is very important to know that Can autorun cause some kind of trouble for us?
Well the answer should be “yes”.
How? Let’s see…

Whenever we plugin any Removable media(mostly Flash drives or USB drives), it shows some kind of options and than we decide to open it or not. But sometimes it automatically open usb without showing any kind of options even you have installed any antivirus tool. This can be due to virus called “Autorun virus”. And after that when you scan your usb with some antivirus tool it detects “autorun virus”…
There are few methods to disable autorun:
Method 1:
This method is to disable autorun using autorun registry hack:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\Autorun.inf]
@=”@SYS:DoesNotExist”
Copy/paste this in notepad and save it as “something.reg” file..
To locate the file follow this path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Microsoft
Windows NT
CurrentVersion
IniFileMapping
Autorun.inf
and after this run the file which you just saved, press yes when you receive a prompt asking if you want to add the data to the registry.
Method 2:
This method is for xp users:
In Start Menu click “Run” and type “gpedit.msc” then press enter.
A window of ”The Group Policy” will open. You will see “Administrative Templates” in the left pane, double-click on it. In the right pane, double-click on “System”,here search for “Turn Off Autoplay” and double-click on it.
Now in the “Turn Off Autoplay Properties” window, select “Enabled”.Here select “All drives” from the dropdown which is next to “Turn Off Autoplay on”, and then click “OK”.
