To make win xp shutdown faster follow the steps shown below:

  • Goto “Start” menu and then “Run”
  • In “Run” type “Regedit” and press ‘OK’
  • A window will open and here search following location in right side of the window

“HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop”

  • At this location select“WaitToKillAppTimeout”
  • Now right click on it and select “Modify”
  • Change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
  • After this select “HungAppTimeout” and right click on it
  • Select “Modify” to change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
  • Go back to the right side of the window and search this location

“HKEY USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop”

  • Here select “WaitToKillAppTimeout” and right click on it
  • Select “Modify” to change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
  • Now again go back to right side of the window and search this location
