To make win xp shutdown faster follow the steps shown below:
- Goto “Start” menu and then “Run”
- In “Run” type “Regedit” and press ‘OK’
- A window will open and here search following location in right side of the window
“HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop”
- At this location select“WaitToKillAppTimeout”
- Now right click on it and select “Modify”
- Change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
- After this select “HungAppTimeout” and right click on it
- Select “Modify” to change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
- Go back to the right side of the window and search this location
“HKEY USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop”
- Here select “WaitToKillAppTimeout” and right click on it
- Select “Modify” to change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
- Now again go back to right side of the window and search this location
“HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\”

- Now select “WaitToKillServiceTimeout” and right click on it
- Select “Modify” to change the value to ‘1000’ and press ‘OK’
At the end close this window and shutdown PC. Now your PC will shutdown much faster than before.
